Pizza-style Pasta Bake

This pasta bake was literally amazing. I kind of just threw things together that I had in the cupboard and hoped for the best and it tasted so much better than I could have hoped for. Sadly, because it was something I did completely randomly- I can’t remember the actual measurements so for the recipe, it’s a bit of guesswork!

I honestly love this new recipe. I’m definitely going to make it again in the future. Also, ignore the weird duck thing. It was in the kitchen when I moved in and because we’re renting the house, we couldn’t throw it out.

Ingredients:

  • Pasta
  • Minced beef
  • Bacon lardons
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 1 clove garlic
  • dried basil
  • dried oregano
  • chili-infused olive oil
  • Tabasco sauce
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 1 sprinkle of bird’s eye chili flakes
  • chili purée
  • tomato purée
  • 1 carton passata
  • a few mushrooms
  • 1/2 jar black olives
  • a few slices of chorizo, salami milano and prosciutto
  • mozzarella cheese
  • cheddar cheese
  • parmesan shavings
  • Panko breadcrumbs

Method:

  1. Fry the onion and garlic in the chili-infused oil. When softened, add the bacon lardons and fry until browned.
  2. Crumble in the stock cube, then add the pepper, dried herbs, chili flakes, Tabasco sauce, mushrooms and minced beef and fry until the meat is brown.
  3. Meanwhile, boil pasta separately.
  4. Add the passata, olives, and purées and simmer until thickened into a tomato sauce.
  5. Drain the pasta and add to the sauce, mix thoroughly.
  6. Spoon into a baking dish and top with grated cheddar cheese, sliced mozzarella, chorizo, salami milano, prosciutto, Parmesan shavings and a handful or two of Panko breadcrumbs, and a sprinkle of dried basil.
  7. Bake at 200°C for about 25 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and gone golden brown.
